Born and raised in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood, Malik was deeply influenced by his parents—his mother, a school principal, and his father, a judge—who instilled in him the values of education and community service. He pursued both his undergraduate degree in finance and an MBA at DePaul University, where he also played four years of varsity basketball for the Blue Demons.
In 2004, Malik joined Ariel Investments, the nation’s oldest African American-owned investment management firm. As head of business development, he played a pivotal role in expanding the firm’s institutional client base and served on its Operating Committee. Prior to Ariel, he spent eight years at Bank One Brokerage, where he led the European shift for its international exchange-traded products group.
Malik’s commitment to education and community outreach was evident in his extensive volunteer work. He served on the boards of St. Ignatius College Prep, Ariel Community Academy, and the National Association of Securities Professionals. At DePaul University, he was not only a trustee but also co-vice chair of the athletics committee and a member of the finance and investment committees. His dedication extended to the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and the DePaul University Department of Finance Advisory Board.
Malik’s legacy is one of leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to uplifting others. His passing is a significant loss to the communities he served so passionately. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who were touched by his remarkable life.
